(January 15, 2016, Patchogue, NY) – Three deserving Suffolk County residents – a disabled adolescent, a young adult with multiple disabilities, and a grandmother who adopted her three grandchildren, received new hearing devices utilizing the newest hearing aid technology, from Widex Corporation, according to representatives from the Help America Hear Program.
Help America Hear, a program created through The Foundation for Sight & Sound, partnered with McGuire’s Hearing Services, the Widex Corporation, and Dr. Lori Trentacoste and Dr. Tara Mazzone of Island Better Hearing, to donate the devices and all associated fitting services, at no charge.
The Help America Hear Program provides free hearing aids to men, women, and children with limited financial resources to obtain hearing aids on their own. The nationwide program has fit over 1,000 individuals with the gift of hearing since its inception seven years ago.
“It is indeed gratifying to provide the gift of hearing to the three deserving Long Islanders,” declared Mitch Shapiro, the Founder and CEO of The Foundation for Sight and Sound. “The restoration of hearing enables individuals to re-connect with loved ones, and to communicate with a world that offers a bounty of wonderful sounds.”
Event organizers noted that the cost for a single, new hearing aid ranges from $1,000-$4,000. Most insurance companies provide little to no hearing aid benefit and Medicare provides no benefit at all.
